Ramadan Mubarak! (Have a blessed Ramadan!)

8th Annual Iftar Dinner with the Dialogue Institute of Kansas City

    • March 12 (Wednesday)
    • 6:30-8:15 p.m. p.m. central time
    • This is an in-person event.

Iftar is the meal that breaks the daylong fasts Muslims practice during their holy month of Ramadan. Join us this night for a meal hosted by our Muslim friends, sharing traditional Iftar foods.

This year, Ramadan runs from Feb. 28 to March 29. For the 8th consecutive year, the Renewal Center will join with the Dialogue Institute of Kansas City to celebrate Iftar together.

Live music, calligraphy, and videos from world children will add more fun to this event.

Here are two documents you might want to look at before joining this event:

    Recipes for Iftar Dinners

    Turkish Meatballs

Learn how to make Kadinbudu Kofte or Turkish Meatballs, a dish that Turkish Muslim families have at their Iftars. Renewal Center Hospitality Director  Luica Ferrara talks with Uma Geyik about Ramadan and why this dish graces Iftar dinners.  Watch the video below.

    Lahmacun or Turkish Pizza

We met Aysel Mercan and her family in April at the 6th Annual Iftar Dinner hosted at Precious Blood Renewal Center with the Dialogue Institute of Kansas City. (Iftar is the meal that breaks the daylong fasts Muslims practice during their holy month of Ramadan.)

Lahmacun, flatbread topped with minced meat and vegetables, is a popular food throughout the western Mediterranean region and is called a Turkish pizza in Turkey. Aysel invited the Cooking & Spirituality crew to her home to learn how to make and to taste Turkish pizza. We were not disappointed.
