Join us for an ecumenical community prayer service Jan. 25 during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. 7 p.m. at Liberty Community of Christ Church.

1,700 years ago, Christians struggled with questions of belief, confusion and difficulty. Out of these struggles, they were able to proclaim together their faith in the words of the Nicene Creed.

On Jan. 23 we will gather as a community of Christians from diverse cultures, beliefs, and practices — including both creedal and non-creedal traditions. We come together to celebrate our shared journey of faith.

    Christ is in our midst.

Music will be provided by the Liberty Community Chorus. Local ministers will lead the prayers.

    Background

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is an ecumenical observance celebrated internationally; and since 1908 between the feasts of St. Paul and St. Peter (January 18-25) under the auspices of the Vatican’s Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity and World Council of Churches’ Faith and Order Commission.

2025 marks the 1,700th anniversary of the first Christian Ecumenical Council, held in Nicaea, near Constantinople in 325 A.D. This commemoration provides a unique opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the common faith of Christians, as expressed in the Creed formulated during this Council; a faith that remains alive and fruitful in our days.
