What does the church teach about the death penalty? What do you believe?

An evening of education on the death penalty from a faith perspective

Using personal histories, scripture, the Catechism of the Catholic Church and social science studies, Fr. Mark Miller, CPPS, will guide us through the church’s evolving understanding of the death penalty.

    • Oct. 10, Tuesday
    • 6:30-8 p.m.
    • In-person and by Zoom

Fr. Mark will help us examine four sets of questions:

    • What did we hear about the death penalty growing up?
    • What myths about the death penalty persist?
    • What does Scripture teach us about the death penalty?
    • What does the Church teach about the death penalty?

Pray a Novena to End the Death Penalty

October 10 is also World Day Against the Death Penalty. This evening of education is the culmination of a novena, nine days of prayer, to end the death penalty. Pope Francis has asked us to pray every day from Oct. 1 to Oct. 9 to end the death penalty.

Those who register for this event can also register to receive a daily email with prayers to end the death penalty. Though separate, we can all pray together.

Here is an article that appeared recently in the magazine U.S. Catholic that might interest you: What does the church teach about the death penalty? By Stephen Schneck.
