This month’s Taizé Service comes shortly after the U.S. national holiday, Labor Day, so this month, we take as our theme “Labor Day and The Dignity of Work.” Pope Francis has repeated said, “It is clear from the very first pages of the Bible that work is an essential part of human dignity.” We must protect it.

This month’s Taizé Service falls on May 4, which is also the annual National Day of Prayer in the United States. There are many things that we can pray about for our country. This evening, we will focus on peace and nonviolence. We pray for calm hearts and cool tempers

Lent is an opportunity for the community of faith to pause and reawaken to the bounty of God’s love. As we deepen our communal and individual awareness that God deeply loves us, our awareness deepens, and so too do our relationships. This month, let us rest in God’s mercy and love.

Feb. 2, the Feast of the Presentation, marks when Mary and Joseph showed fidelity and dedication to God by presenting the infant Jesus in the Temple. In baptism, you too were welcomed into the community of believers and promised to be a sign of Christ’s Light in the world.

The story of the origin of the miraculous image of Our Lady of Guadalupe is well known. Juan Diego was a quiet, humble man, a poor peasant. Our Lady spoke to Juan Diego in his own language, with an appearance that reflected the indigenous people and their culture.

Many cultures and traditions set aside special days to remember and prayer for their deceased. During our November Taizé prayer service, we will remember those who have passed on before us. Our theme is “Surrounded by a Cloud of Witness.”
