Members of Virginia-based A Mom’s Peace explain their ministry to families who have experienced a miscarriage or stillbirth. They help the families grieve their loss with funerals and burials among other forms of support.
Our speakers of the Oct. 30 session “Zoomed” in from Virginia to talk about their ministry to families whose pregnancy ended in a miscarriage or a stillbirth. They offer families a variety of support services, including funerals and burials.
It is a ministry to a group of women and families, our facilitator Fr. Ron Will CPPS, explained in his introduction to the program, who are often neglected.
Presenters for the 5th and last program in our monthlong discussion series A Respect Life Challenge, were Kara Palladino, the founder and program director of A Mom’s Peace Founder, Deacon Gerard-Marie Anthony, the group’s spiritual director, and Colleen Sullivan, A Mom’s Peace Communications Director.

Oct 2 — Elder Abuse Awareness
Nanna Cross and Julie Kuzera from Jane Adams Senior Caucus talk about their advocacy work among the elderly who have experienced abuse and offer advice to look for warning signs in our own homes and local care facilities.
Oct 9 —Losing a Child to Homicide or Incarceration
Sr. Donna Liette, CPPS, who facilitates the Mothers Circle at Precious Blood Ministry of Reconciliation in Chicago introduced us to one mother who lost her son to gun violence and another mother whose son was sentenced to life in prison at age 15.
Oct 16 — Abolishing the Death Penalty
Members of Missourians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty, Jean Swymeler and Connie Swymeler, talk about how they changed their position on the death penalty and why they now work for its abolition.
Oct 23 — Preventing Gun Violence
As priests in west Texas, Fathers Joesph Uecker, CPPS, and Mike Goode CPPS, to confront gun violence in their parishes. They share stories about comforting victims and confronting people intent on using guns to settle disputes or seek vengeance.
Oct. 30 — Grieving Miscarriage or Stillborn
Kara Palladino, Colleen Sullivan, and Deacon Gerard-Marie Anthony from A Mom’s Peace, in Virginia, introduce us to their ministry among mothers who have lost children through miscarriages and stillbirths. They tell us about the grieving process and how to find ongoing support.

Using threats, shame and guilt to gain another’s cooperation is expedient but ineffective over the long-run. On the other hand, inviting someone to join us in a common work or goal, respects the other, is more constructive and more often results in substantive and long-lasting change.
